Hello,
Do we use "on" or "in" with the fire truck/engine?
"How many firemen are there [on/in] the fire truck/engine?"
Thank you.

If I were talking about the firemen inside the front compartment, I would ask how many are in the truck. If I want to know how many were hanging off the back or operating the ladder, I would ask how many are on the truck.
If you were asking for the total number of firemen, you would most likely get your desired answer using "on the fire truck." "In" would be too specific and refer to only those that are inside. _________________ Pat Mallon
