I would guess "first" is the answer. I don't know why it isn't "...that he saw that inspired him..." "To take up acting" means to "start acting" or "study acting" or "become an actor". If you take up knitting, you learn how to knit and practice the craft. Same thing with other activities. |

'First' is the correct answer since this is what inspired him to 'take up acting'.
'Take up acting' means to begin or start acting.
