Hello,
I have read in a magazine:

In your first job, a concession giving you an early review can be more important than a concession on any other issue than your starting salary.

I would re-write it:
In your first job, a concession OF giving you an early review can be more important than a concession on any other issue than your starting salary.

What's proper?

Alexander.

They are both correct.

In English, words that are understood are often left out.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Could you also comment on the meaning of this "..than your starting salary"?

What does it mean in this sentence?

In your first job, a concession giving you an early review can be more important than a concession on any other issue than your starting salary.

I can simplify the sentence: The early review is more important than other issues...

I don't understand what the "starting salary" refers to.

In your first job, a concession giving you an early review can be more important than a concession on any other issue than your starting salary.

I think your sentence should read:_

In your first job, a concession giving you an early review can be more important than a concession on any issue other than your starting salary.

In this case it means that the early review is the most important concession except for a concession on your starting salary (which is the most important).

That's what I thought, but was not sure.
There are no prepositions in this part of the sentence and you have to guess.

Thank you very much.

Alexander.
