Dear Teacher:

I am a university student from Taiwan. I have a question about "within & inside". I look for the dictionary and their meaning are the same. Is the meaning the same? Thanks a lot!

within the city =? inside the city

When used as a preposition or adverb they are pretty much synonymous.
You can usually replace within, with inside, but not vice-versa.

When inside is used as a noun e.g. the inside of a box, you cannot replace it with within.

When inside is used as an adjective, e.g. The inside position, you cannot replace it with within.
