What is "smart money" ?
Pelosi stunned many Democrats on Friday with the announcement that she will run for leader of the new Democratic minority in the House. If her colleagues and the smart money in Washington thought she would retreat and resign after the Democrats' 60-seat loss Tuesday, Pelosi reminded them that she didn't become the first female speaker in history through timidity. _________________ Hiromichi |

| "The smart money", in that case, means people who have expert knowledge of something. |

Thank you. Does it have some etymology? I found a magazine of the same title in the net. _________________ Hiromichi |

Frankly, I don't know the origin of it. Besides referring to people, it can also mean money that is invested or bet by people who have expert knowledge. |
