Bob: Ken, what are you reading?
Ken: I�m reading a great book. ( ).
Bob: Oh, really? I�d like to read it, too.
Which is more natural for the blank above, #1 or #2?
1. A famous scientist wrote it.
2. It was written by a famous scientist.
People around me say #2 is more natural, but somehow I feel #1 is more natural in the flow. What do you think? |

I like number 2 better too. Maybe because the "it" is close to "book" in the preceding sentence, or because the primary emphasis is on "book" and not the writer. Just my feelings, though, not a "rule" . |
