Hi,

I have a grammatical question about 'tense' in the following lyrics.

The Day I Died http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-day-i-died-lyrics-just-jack.html

The whole lyrics are in the present tense except these three lines :
1.The day I died was the best day of my life.
2. 'Cause I always hated Rob
3. And as I cross back over the street / I guess I never saw that taxi

I'm very puzzled by the tense here. If the narrator 'I' was dead, why would almost all the rest of lyrics be in the present tense? It doesn't make any sense at all. Is the narrtor 'I' playing as a ghost looking back his death and looking at what is happening around him? That's my wild guess. I just couldn't figure out the only past tense sentence here.

Thanks for your help in advance.
