People are like apples. They come in all different colors, shapes and sizes. On the outside ,some of the apples may not even look as delicious as the others. As I was talking, Adam was examining each one carefully.
Then, I took each of the apples and peeled them, placing them back on the table, but ____ a different place.
A. in B. on
Which one is the most suitable?

could you tell me WHY?
Shouldn't we say " on the table" as written in the previous sentence?
Thanks |

| I'm sorry I can not tell you "why" but I can say that we use "in a different place" and not "on a different place." Perhaps someone can give you a "rule". I can probably make one up, but it might be very complicated and not do much good. No, it doesn't always make "sense". |
