1. What does "leave"below mean?
2. Does "Brooklyn novelists" mean novelists who live in high priced areas?
But where does it leave the serious critic, one not interested, say, in tabulating the number of Brooklyn novelists who receive attention each year in publications like this one (data possibly more useful to real estate agents and sociologists than to readers)? _________________ Hiromichi |

I would paraphrase "But where does it leave the serious critic" as "What alternative does the serious critic have".
I am not familiar with the term "Brooklyn novelists" but Brooklyn is not considered a rich area. I would rather think that Brooklyn novelists are novel writers of a particular genre. _________________ Educe22 |
