Hello,
When a name ends with an "s", do we omit the "s" in the possessive apostrophe? Or the "s" can be omitted only with plural nouns?
e.g. Jess'(s) sandwice
Thank you.

I use 's for a singular noun even if it ends in a double-s. It is consistent with other consonants, and there really is no reason not to have three ss in a row this way.
My boss's wife, not My boss' wife.
Ross's car, not Ross' car.
Although this way of doing it was rarer in the past, you see it more and more these days, and I think it is not only correct but the best way. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
