Hi. Could anyone kindly tell me what is funny about this joke?

When your boyfriend is rehearsing for a play, don't tell your roommate that he is 'upstairs doing lines.'
Thank you in advance.

People who use cocaine chop it up with a credit card or razor blade and lay it out in thin "lines" which they then sniff up their noses with a rolled up banknote, straw, or something similar.
This is sometimes called, "Doing lines".

And when an actor practices or rehearses his part, he reads his lines from the script and tries to remember them. This is called reading lines. So this is a lame pun on doing lines / reading lines.

Thank you , CP and asterix, for your information about the pun on the word "lines," which I couldn't have gotten in any other way than being a drug addict myself. Thank you again.
