"The recession may still be the talking point of the town, but this seasons most covetable jewelled accessories come at statement prices. "

"The Philippines annual inflation rate jumped in January as food costs rose, hardening expectations the central bank will soon have to join its regional neighbours in hiking rates despite its statements prices are under control."

What is the meaning of statement prices in both sentences?

Thanks in advance,
Clarissa.

(I'm back!)

Statement is a noun that means - a document setting out items of debit and credit between a bank or other organisation and a customer.
The meaning is unclear. I suppose that it means something like, at cost, or in some other way, indicates a good deal.

Quote:
"The Philippines annual inflation rate jumped in January as food costs rose, hardening expectations the central bank will soon have to join its regional neighbours in hiking rates despite its statements prices are under control."

The central bank will have to increase its rates despite the fact that it has been saying prices are under control.

Thanks!

I think now it is what we call "Preo anunciados", "preos declarados" (sth like "declared prices".

Glad to see you back, Clarissa!

I think these two sentences are different. While the first might refer to something called, "statement prices" I believe the second is different. Asterix explained the meaning. I think the sentence is "...hiking rates despite its statements (saying) that prices are under control." The "that" has been deleted.
