What is the meaning of "commit" in a phrase, "to commit to an answer" in the classroom context?
Thank you.

In my experience I would say that "commit to an anwer" (or commit to any action) means to "make up your mind", i.e., come to a decision and "stick with it" and thus accept any resulting consequences. _________________ Educe22 |

Commit to an answer is an oblique and long-winded way to say, "answer." or promise to answer (depending on the context).
Commit = pledge or bind to a policy, course, or use. |
