Can anyone explain the meaning of the underlined sentence more clearly?

By the way, is the sentence grammatically correct?

Repellents come in a variety of strengths, so make sure to read the directions. You dont want to avoid malaria only to make yourself ill through the use of repellents.

Thanks a million!!!

You have to be careful not to make yourself sick by improper use of mosquito repellents, while trying to avoid malaria.
