Dear teachers:

I found "want" and "would like" that they have the same meaning, but do they have different usage?

And I am wondering if teachers could provide me something more than "want", "would like", "desire", "hope", "wish" that I could possibly use in an unique way.

Thank you for your explantion in advance.

Want is more direct and less polite. If you're asking for something it's more polite to say I would like as a way of softening the request. Would like is also used for things you want but you can't have, like a way of saying "it would be nice!". I would like a million dollars and a unicorn, but I know that's not going to happen!

Here are some synonyms!
