The following is my question:
Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have __________ for over 25 years.
A. been married
B. got married
C. married
D. been marrying
The answer is (A), but I think the answer (B) is acceptable, too.
Would someone please help me with this question? Thanks a lot.[/b] |

B is not acceptable. If you have had one marriage, then you only got married once. You don't continue to have a wedding every year. The present perfect is often used to show something that started in the past and continued to the present. Therefore, I have been married for over 25 years shows that you got married over 25 years ago, and have continued to be married ever since. |
