So, when I recently returned home to Burlington, Vermont, I got rid of my cell phone and traded in an old, rusty bike for a regular landline telephone that was connected to the wall and everything.

What does the "and everything" mean in this sentence?

And everything in this sentence means all the things associated with the land line telephone connected to the wall. It is completely unnecessary.
