Hi,
I have been curious about the meaning of 'There's no one to defeat you.' Since it's an infinitive structure, I have been wondering what it really connotes or implies. Does it mean:
1. There's no one that can/could defeat you.
2. There's no one that will/would defeat you.
3. There's no one that wants to defeat you.
When native speakers of English use the above sentence-there's no one to defeat you--what do they mean by instinct?
Just out of curiosity!! |

Without more context, I would interpret it to mean that there is no one else around, hence no one who can or will defeat you. It might also mean that no one who might fight you is capable of defeating you. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
