With so many cultural differences between people, it is great to have some similarities in body language. We can often be wrong about each other, so it is an amazing thing that we understand each other as well as we do.

Can you paraphrase this underlined sentence?

... so it is an amazing thing that we understand each other as well as we do when we use body language.

--- I have to disagree with this argument, in USA, nodding is YES, in India it is NO.

The paraphrase is "it is an amazing thing that we understand each other fairly well sometimes" or something like that.

More examples:

We don't often cook, so when we tried to make the recipe, I was surprised it tasted as well as it did. (It tasted pretty good.)

He only studied English for a year, so I am surprised he speaks as well as he does. (He speaks pretty well for someone who only studied a year.)

On the other hand, I also disagree with the part of the quote that says, "it is great to have some similarities in body language." because there are also many differences.
