I wonder "had been camped out" below should be corrected to "had been camping out".


After the indictment was filed, Mr. Vance spoke briefly on the courthouse steps addressing hundreds of local and foreign reporters who had been camped out in front of the imposing stone edifice. He characterized the charges as �extremely serious� and said the �evidence supports the commission of nonconsensual forced sexual acts.�

That's a really good question. In this case, they weren't really "camping out" like you would expect, with a tent, a camp stove, etc. If you used "had been camping out" I would expect to see the tent. I am not sure if this is a function of a slightly different meaning, or something else, however, so perhaps someone else will comment as well.
