Hi,
Which of the following sentences is correct?
1. My email address will be changing to XXX.
2. My email adress will be changed to XXX.
I'd like to know if 'change' here has anything to do with 'ergative verb'?
In addition, is there any way to make 'ergative verb' easier to understand? Its usage baffles me sometimes.
Much appreciated!! |

You can use either.
1. My email address will be changing to XXX.
2. My email address will be changed to XXX.
Number one is more of a process. Number two is more of a transformation.
Change can be an ergative verb. Take this test:
John changed the email, therefore the email changed.
The (subject) (verb)ed the (object), therefore the (object) (verbed).
If it sounds natural, the verb (in the sense it is used) is ergative.
