What does "beaten-down no" mean?
Republican lawmakers who opposed the plan were summoned to the speakers office for a new round of lobbying by top House members. As he left the office, one of those called in for an arm-twisting, Representative Louie Gohmert of Texas, said he remained a bloody beaten-down no. _________________ Hiromichi |

The speaker was trying to convince people to vote "yes." Louie Gohmert wanted to vote no. He was called in for some "arm-twisting" which means people pushing him to change his vote. Although they tried very hard, he is still a "no". (He wasn't really bloody and beaten-down, but he said that to show how hard they tried to convince him, as a somewhat humorous comment.) |
