It was $7,000. Then to pour a little salt in the wound, they tacked on a 10 percent excise tax because it was a passenger ticket. And on top of that, there were no frequent flyer miles.
What does the underlined sentence mean?

Some airlines or credit cards give "frequent flyer miles" when you buy an airline ticket. The miles add up, and you can use them for a free flight. In this case, not only was there a 10 percent tax on an expensive ticket, but you didn't get credit for any frequent flyer miles. |
