Hi,
I don't understand the following passage on page 38 in Yi-Fu Tuan's Cosmos & Heart. (http://www.docin.com/p-37796606.html) Could anyone help me out with plain English paraphrase of it? Thanks in advance!
| Quote: |
| His grandson imported tea from China, and tea-drinking, ...became Tibet's addction. Tibet, however, was at least as much influenced by India, which had the advantage of being closer to Tibet's population nodes. |
1. What does ' at least as much' mean?
2. What does 'population nodes' mean? I've searched the term on the internet without finding any one fit into this context. |

At least as much, means equally ( or perhaps slightly more than equally).
Node is a technical noun used in Botany, Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics and Anatomy. It has nothing to do with population and is incorrectly used here.
Better thus:
... Tibet was equally influenced by India, which had the advantage of being closer to Tibet's population centres. |
