Hello. I have a question about the following phrases:
1. political unification
2. political coalition
3. political alliance
The words unification, coalition and alliance are listed as synonyms in many thesauri, but I was wondering if there are any semantic differences among them. When these synonyms come with the word political, are they all interchangeable without any change in meaning? Please anybody help me with this. Thank you. |

They are not the same.
Unification means (the act of) coming together to form a whole. .
For example: as East and West Germany did after the fall of the Soviet Union to form the Federal Republic of Germany.
A coalition is a temporary alliance, especially of political parties forming a government.
As in the UK currently.
An alliance is an association formed for mutual benefit, such as NATO, currently. |
