I'm a student now preparing for a test.
this is one of the questions:
The wind blew ____ the lantern so it was very hard to see.
A.off
B.on
C.out
D.away
I choose the answer of A, but the correct answer is B.
I look up the dictionary and it seems the answer is A.
I want to know why the answer is B.
Thanks for help!!! |

Oh this is a very interesting question. I do not think B is right. I think C is probably the "correct" answer. If you blow out the lantern, you extinguish the flame. You can blow out a candle too.
If the lantern was hanging somewhere and the wind blew it off, it would mean the lantern fell to the ground, and perhaps was broken. Then you couldn't see anymore either.
Theoretically, if the wind was very very high, it could even blow away the lantern, which would mean it was no longer in the same position, but was a distance away.
The wind could blow on the lantern (B) and have no effect. Therefore, I don't think B is a good answer. |
