A new child was adopted at nursery.
A new child started attending the nursery.
Are these two sentences synonymous? Is `adoptedcorrect English? |

No, these two sentences are not synonymous at all.
If a child is adopted by Mr. & Mrs. Smith, that means that Mr. & Mrs. Smith are now the legal parents of the child.
Sometimes we also speak of a plan (for example) being adopted by a committee. This means that the committee formally accepted the plan.
Hope this helps _________________ Helping ESL students since 2001!
