The next morning the stranger, actually a sorcerer , thanked her by granting her ______ that anyone who climbed up her tree _____ not be able to come back down until she permits it.
1. A. demand B. wish
2. the answer is "should".
the key to the first question, is "wish", but how could "wish" be collocated with "should"?
That means I can say : My wish is that he should not come back home.
Is that right?
Can I choose "demand" instead since I can safely say " My demand is that he should not come back home"?
What's your opinion?
Thanks! |

For the first gap wish is better. Wish and grant go together.
Demand is more pushy. Demand does not accept refusal.
For the second gap, should is technically correct, but it's like an old English subjunctive, now going out of use.
Most people would use would, which sounds more natural.
Hope helps,
