The following is my question:

(A) She firmly believed that the earth is flat.
(B) While Steven was playing online games, his brother studied.
(C) Mia is talking to Reed just now.
(D) My brother is leaving for the US next week.

The correct answer is (D), but what's wrong with (B)?

Thanks for your kind help.

It would be better to put

While Steven was playing online games, his brother was studying.

We use while + past continuous, followed by past simple when the continuous verb describes the background for an event described by the past simple verb.

But here there is no event, just two continuous actions happening at the same time. "while" could go with either part.

Hope helps,
Ian
