Is this sentence right?
--“How was your exam?”
--“Don’t mention it. It was really a bad trip.”
Can "don't mention it" be used in the situation above? In my opinion, it is only used as a polite answer when sb has thanked you for sth.
Is it right?
Thanks! |

Is that
Question:--“How was your exam?”
Answer:--“Don’t mention it. It was really a bad trip.”
?
If so, I don't really understand "It was a really bad trip."
That sounds like you're talking about a bad travel experience, or a bad drug experience ('trip' - what you experience when you take a drug), instead of an exam. Maybe this is a new use I'm unfamiliar with? ^^
Re: Don’t mention it Alone, as you said, is usually used as a polite answer to someone thanking you. But in a larger sentence, it might be used to warn someone about saying something.
"Don't mention it to him, he becomes angry when people bring that up."
"It's better if you don't mention it, unless they ask you specifically."
But in reply to
Question:--“How was your exam?”
Answer:--“Don't talk to me about it." or "I don't want to talk about it." or "Let's not talk about it." is a more appropriate reply. |
