Hi there,

"Ecosystem services provide a restorative lens for landscape architecture
practice."

Please tell me what does it mean by providing a restorative lens?
Thanks.

The most common use of lens is:
"An object, usually made of glass, that focuses or defocuses the light that passes through it."
We look through these (physical object) lenses to view things.

There is a less common definition which is:
"a way of looking, literally or figuratively, at something." (definition 6)
Can you see the connection between Definition 1 and Definition 6?

Definition 6 is the way 'lens' is being used in your sentence. It is similar to 'point of view', or 'perspective', but more academic (it sounds smarter / more sophisticated, people in university love it ^^).
'Lens' as a 'point of view' is something you see in the humanities (definition 2), it is less common in science.

Some examples:
Quote:
"I was able to look at things through the international development lens, to try to understand the challenges, and help by sharing my knowledge."
Looking at a situation and focusing on the parts that relate to international development.

"Reading a text through a gender studies lens does not preclude alternate, simultaneous understandings of the same text from other viewpoints."
Reading a text and focusing on, or specially considering how it relates to gender issues.

So your sentence means:
Ecosystem services give a point of view that focuses on restoration to people who practice landscape architecture.
or
Ecosystem services let people focus on restoration when they do landscape architecture.

(I have no idea what ecosystem services are.)

The most common definition of ecosystem services comes from the United Nations Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA): “the benefi ts people obtain from ecosystems” (MA 2005). Ecosystem services are also referred to as environmental goods and services and nature’s benefits.
