Hello teachers!

Lately I've been thinking about dealing with sudden events that happen.

Suppose i say "Well this has been a turn of events"

does this mean something bad has unexpectedly happened?
or can the saying be neutral?

Thanks!

We say:

Well, this is a sudden turn of events!

It means something unexpected happened. Most of the time it's negative, meaning it's bad news or a change that's bad.

Occasionally, it's a good turn of events!

'turn of events' is not very informative, so it is almost ALWAYS preceded by a descriptor that explains what kind of change it was.

"sudden turn of events"
"unexpected turn of events"
"shocking turn of events"

"fortunate turn of events"
"unfortunate turn of events"

"(things/events took a) turn for the worse" is like "unfortunate turn of events"
