Hi
I love reading English books. When I was reading a book, I met expressions of which I couldn’t understand the meanings. In the book, 8 masked men killed a man. One of the masked man put him in a cement box and split open the sacks of sand and fill the box.
And another masked man "fastened a cement lid to the top of the box on a preset row of hinges."←What does this sentence mean? Is this cement lid presetted on the top of the box by hinges?
Or is this lid detached from the box, and the man fasten the lid to the box by the hinges which are presetted on the top of the box?
Could you tell me ? |

I am already having trouble envisioning a cement box with hinges, but it seems the preset row of hinges would be on the box, and the lid fastened to them, but I could be wrong. It would make more sense to have the lid and the hinges already fastened. Your guess is probably better than mine |

Thank you very much for your answer,Lorikeet.
Sorry for the belated thanks
It’s so nice of you to answer such ambiguous questions.
So,this sentence is double-barreled.
Your answer is very helpful to me.
I'm very grateful to you. |
