Does 'send home' mean 'make a candidate defeated' ? Namely the candidate will return from Washington to their home state.
Bill Cassidy, a doctor and Republican congressman, defeated three-term Senator Mary L. Landrieu in a runoff election in Louisiana Saturday, sending home the last Deep South Democrat in the United States Senate, according to The Associated Press

Yes. She was defeated, so she will go home and not be in Washington DC any longer. (Except when she gets hired as a lobbyist. I bet that will happen soon! )  |
