Don't you think a usage of "to the effect that" below is odd and should be rephrased?
Short stories are different from full-fledged stories to the effect
that in the former the author does not take pains to elaborately depict
the surroundings and people in order for the readers to visualize
things as vividly as possible. _________________ Hiromichi |

How about rewritig "to the effect that" to "in that"? Too archaic? Any suggestion?

Funny you should suggest that. I almost did in my response, so yes, I prefer "in that" a lot. |
