I wonder 'spared of ' below should be corrected to ' spare of.'

That means he won’t have to find the $1.58 billion a lower court had wanted him to restore to this year’s state budget, and it will make balancing next year’s budget a lot easier. He can decide whether to run for president, a call he has promised to make this month, spared of any “fiscal crisis” headlines.

It means he will be spared any "fiscal crisis" headlines, so you need the "spared"

In this case ’of' is unnecessary. So 'being scared of xxx' should be ' being scared xxx' or 'being scare of xxx.' In the latter case 'scare' is adjective.

I am confused because you have changed "spared" to "scared".
