In countries like Tanzanian, water is hard to get, and the job of collecting water falls on women's shoulders. Girls are often kept from school to collect water while their brothers stay at school studying.
Studies show Tanzanian girls who live 15 minutes from clean water spend 12% more time at school than those who live half an hour away.
More time spent collecting water means less time for learning.
Q: I don't understand the sentence underlined. What does it mean?
Thank you. |

It means that if a girl lives 30 minutes away from clean water, she has to spend more time to get the water, and therefore less time at school than a girl who lives 15 minutes away. Do you understand now? If not, explain what part you don't understand. |
