Hi there,
When astronaut Neil Armstrong was walking on the moon, he said, "that's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
Here why did he use "that's" instead of "this's"?
Thanks.

Well I thank you for your question, because I always thought he said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" but actually there is a lot of discussion about whether or not he added the "a" before man. https://www.space.com/neil-armstrong-first-words-on-moon.html
We don't write "this's" but my guess is he used "that's" instead of "this is" because it was right after he stepped. It's hard to tell from the recording. |
