Hello!

I would like to start a discussion on a topic the modern world is concerned about most - Environmental Change and Natural Disasters.
Nowadays, many nations have to face the problems caused by Mother Nature, who (I will personify it) seems to be ready to take revenge for what we, humans, have done to her so far. Since it is a international problem, I'd like to ask a few questions, which might be of interest to the miltinational membership of this forum.

Have there been any natural disasters in your country (earthquakes, flooding, severe thunderstorms etc)? If so, what happened? What damage was caused? If you were a witness of the disaster, describe it in more detail from a personal perspective.

Can you think of any ways in which pollution is affecting the environment? Have you heard of any fresh scientific results, theories, research currently carried out, which back up the fact that man's impact on natural world has been underestimated?

What can be done about it? What possible solutions to the problem does the scientific community suggest?
Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future? Why?

There's a little crisis in my city, since the Bogota's River is very dirty! (Awful!). Razz
Still, they're cleaning it. I think that, as long as people in the location help solving the problem, every environmental problem has a solution. .. Mainly it takes a loooooooong time, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Wink

Hello:

I am here to talk about the disaster that ocurred a few weeks ago here in Puerto Rico were I live. It was a strong storm and thank God it didn't passed like a hurricane here in Puerto Rico, but right now is in Florida, U.S. and is destroiyng everything in his way. This time of year we always have this type of nature phenomenons and they are very dangerous for the islands that are in the Caribbean. We had a lot of problems because the light went off in all Puerto Rico and in other areas the water too. Right now, some people still do not have light and water, but the Government is working on that. Thanks for your time and attention and let's see how soon you can answer please because I like to know more about other phenomenons that passed in other countries.
Chao... Very Happy

Several typhoons hit Taiwan during summer every year.
It causes flood , death, power cut.
It destroys road, bridge,houses.
I'm afraid of typhoon.
I only can wait and pray.
Many earthquakes happen in Taiwan every year.
I don't know how to prevent.
