I once had a student from Korea, Jee Woo. Her mother, Hee Sook, asked me to help choose Jee Woo's American name so that her teachers could have an easier time pronouncing her name. I actually told Hee Sook that I don't think Jee Woo should have an American name. Do her teachers give themselves Korean names to help Jee Woo? No! I wanted to express to Hee Sook and Jee Woo that they should be proud of their beautiful names.

Hee Sook agreed with me and told me that Jee Woo will not have an American name.
