Hey,buddies!

I'm some idle guy from China loving learning Englsih. Now I have a small problem.I really don't know how to express it.For you see, a lot of Chinese teenages today do not take part-time jobs as some western kids.So high schools and colleges introduce some projects named "scocial practice" demanding them to do something in the society and to communicate with other people besides their parents and classmates or their intimate priends, such as doing some social investigations or science dissemination or sort of volunteers .
I guess there must be some kind of things similar in the other countries, but I'm not sure if you'll call it "social practice" in English.
Do you?
