Hey! What do you want to know about Scotland?

Its a beautiful country, with only a small population. About 5million. About the same as Hokkaido. Are you Japanese?

You should visit it for yourself! Very Happy

I can't tell you how excited I was to find someone looking for info on visiting Scotland! I spent nine months studying at St Andrews University (St Andrews is just north of Edinburgh), and loved every minute of it.
There are a lot of tours that run out of Edinburgh for 1, 3 or 6/7 days, and take you all around Scotland on a bus. My personal favourite is the Haggis company, their office is located on the Royal Mile. Haggis tours are aimed at people 18-35, so they're fun and you learn facts as well as having people to go out with at night. I think a tour is a good gateway to the highlands, especially as driving in Scotland may be tricky for some (being on the left side of the road and all Wink ) Personally, I rented a car three times while in Scotland, and I LOVE driving there!! Especially manual transmission... !

You have to see Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, the Isle of Skye, take a boat tour of Loch Ness. Eilean Donan is a very famous castle that's fun to walk around, and beautiful scenery. Urqhuart Castle is also very cool, and interesting historically. Culloden is also a must, though a somber section of a tour in Scotland. The last battle fought on British soil, and a pivotal moment in Scottish history. On that note, Stirling is also a must. The valley is absolutely beautiful, the castle fully intact and was the capital of Scotland until moved to Edinburgh (in the 18th c ?? I can't remember).

If you go in the summer months, definitely try to get up to the Orkneys, and maybe even the Shetlands. Beautiful beautiful.
I found Scottish people to be very friendly and absolutely hysterical. The trains in Britain are very efficient, and buying a Young Persons Railcard is VERY worth it if you plan on taking the train more than twice. It costs around 18pounds, and saved me 4pounds on a return ticket StAndrews-Edinburgh. I went to Edinburgh a lot Very Happy

Edinburgh is probably my second favourite world city. The atmosphere, the tourist things to see (the castle, the palace, the University, the Grassmarket), the pubs, the music... I loved it. Glasgow is a great city for music and nightlife, but I felt more of a connection with Edinburgh.

There's a footpath that runs all along the coast of the Kingdom of Fife (where St Andrews is) and is definitely worth a day's stroll. The coast is beautiful, and you finish the walk feeling refreshed and full of life. If you're interested in hiking, there is also the Highland Way, a hiking path that runs up the Great Glen. I believe you can start just outside of Glasgow, and go all the way to Inverness if you fancy.. but it's also very easy to just hike a bit of it.

I'll leave off for now, because I firmly believe that everyone should have their own experience of a place- and I don't want to put too much of my feeling into this! (too late ??) Do visit Scotland if you have the opportunity, it's worth every penny.
