How do you ask a student whether he or she is a freshman, sophomore, etc. ?

1. Which year are you at a univesity?
2. Which year are you at university?
3. What grade are you at a university?
4. What grade are you at univesity?
5. ?

Thanks.

What year are you in at the university? (American Eng)
Response: " I'm in my senior year at the university"
The British don't use an article before the word "university"
Example: "Will you go to university?"

Thanks. If the response is, " I am a senior (is this correct in the first place?)," what would the question be?

Question: ?
Response: I am a senior.

It seems that "What year are you in at the university" is quite formal, any simpler way of saying the same thing? Is "what year are you in a university" or "what year are you at a university" simply wrong?

"What year are you in?"
"I'm in my senior year"
or
""I'm a senior"

Its not too formal. You could also say, "What level are you at?"

Is "what year are you in a university" or "what year are you at a university" simply wrong?
Its not so much wrong as it is vague.
Better: "what year are you in at a university?"
" In what year are you at the university"?
British: "what year are you in at university?"
"In what year are you at university?"

Thanks. It does look like both "in" and "at" are needed in the question. In is for the level and at is for the location.
