Hi Missdaredevil,

Tivo is a device for recording TV programs. It's a few steps beyond a VCR. It's easy to select programs to record. And since they are recorded on a hard drive rather than a tape, you get nearly instant fast forward. That leads to its most valuable feature - skipping over the commercials!
