It's great to see the world come together to help the tsunami victims in Southeast Asia. Here are the latest help so far, and I hope and pray that more and more help come in quickly before more people are taken in by disease.
United States of America donated about 35 million dollars in aid and has sent humanitarian aid, supplies, equipment, rescue helicopters, food, and water.
Russia sent Il-76 planes to Sri Lanka, carrying 25 tons of humanitarian aid, including tents and other emergency supplies, plus a helicopter and rescue experts, the Russian emergencies ministry told ITAR-TASS news agency. Russia also plans to send aid to Indonesia, where around 4,725 people were confirmed dead, mostly in the province of Aceh.
Israel sent a team of experts and humanitarian aid of food, water, and medicine.
China also sent a team of experts and humanitarian aid.
France sent about 100 doctors, rescue specialists and communications experts to Sri Lanka.
Germany announced that it was sending one million euros (1.35 million dollars) of aid to the stricken region and was working with humanitarian groups.
Ireland also released one million euros.
Great Britain sent two experts to join UN crisis assessment teams and pledged 100,000 dollars to fund a World Health Organization crisis response team.
Greece was sending two military C-130 cargo planes to Madras in India with more than six tons of aid along with doctors and rescuers, and had released aid of 150,000 euros for each country.
Pakistan said it would send tents, medicine and water to Sri Lanka, while the India's government, which has set up a huge operation to help people on its southern coasts, was also offering food and medicine to its neighbor.
Iran where some 31,000 people were killed in the southern city of Bam exactly a year before the Asian disaster, would also do what it could to help, President Mohammad Khatami said.
Turkey , another earthquake-prone country and NATO ally, promised assistance while Kuwait offered one million dollars.
Australia offered 10 million dollars (7.6 million euros) in aid, and dispatched two military C-130 transport planes with drinking water and other supplies to a staging base in Malaysia. I stress that this is an initial contribution, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said. Australia will and should give more.
Canada's International Development Minister Aileen Carroll, meanwhile, said Ottawa would send an initial contribution of one million Canadian dollars in aid (820,000 US) through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Japan sent a 20-member medical team, including four physicians and seven nurses, to Sri Lanka and promised more aid was on the way. We must provide care for physical injuries and infectious diseases, said Hiroyuki Yokota, deputy head of the team, told reporters before leaving.
The Philippines , which was spared by the waves but recently lost 1,800 killed in devastating storms, will send a small humanitarian contingent to where it is most needed -- to participate in rescue efforts to help treat the wounded and uplift the communities, President Gloria Arroyo said.
The European Community brought in about 5 million dollars in aid. Several non-government and charitable organizations are also contributing to the tsunami victims in southeast asia. |

Canada is sending $40 million, according to the TV last night.
So I guess the USA shamed us into it and there was a great outcry from the Canadian public who felt we ought to send a considerable amount of money. |

That's great to hear! The money is going to a great cause in helping the tsunami victims of Southeast Asia. I also want to add that I just saw on the Internet that South Korea is in the process of collecting donations to be sent to help the tsunami victims. It is great to see the world coming together helping fellow human beings. |

And Finland has sent about 4,5 million euros, which is pretty much from a small country. _________________ "Without the past there's no future..." |

Great news! The United States has raised its tsunami aid to $350 million! Also, 40 million dollars in private donations all over the world are coming in that it's very difficult to count them all. Due to the enormity of the disaster, the people in those striken areas will need a lot of help, and I hope the supplies, bottled water, equipment all come in as quickly as possible before disease takes its toll. Unfortunately, this natural disaster has put a damper on the 2005 New Year. Too many people have died in Asia. So many loved ones have been lost. The new year will not be a good one for many in Asia. |

Great news,
It is a war of figures, Spain had approved an aid of 50 millions of Euros ( pay attention of the currency) and it is in the fifth place of donor countries.
I guess all aid is important but my concern is that not to be forgotten the tragedy in a couple of month and I hope seeing NGO's and goverment are working together. _________________ I could dance with you till the cows come home...On second thought, I'd rather dance with the cows when you came home |

I think the response is over than we think in logic. That means the response is huge. Everyone who had donated their money should think that it can help the people who need help. |

As a Hong Konger, I had never seen such a situation before. And i think people in HongKong are becoming richer and richer than in the past, although it is small. So, i think that more lucky will show in themselves. |

NBC hold a two-hour program tsunami benefit concert last week.
It was broadcast around the United States.
Many movie and music stars contributed their talents for this concert.
They helped raise funds for tsunami relief
They asked viewers to call and offer donations.
All donations will be given to American Red Cross International Response Fund.
Actor Clint Eastwood said "We have a choice. We can either look away or we can help."
Morgan Freeman told of a 60-year-old man in Sri Lanka who survived for two weeks before being found by rescuers.
He said."Miracles do happen. You can be that miracle also."
It's very moved.
Many people are kind. They really like to help people.
Many organizations bring help to these people. |

India to has helped its neighbours to cope with the aftermath of the tsunami. It has sent medics and other assistance to Srilanka, Sumatra and Indonesia to name a few. _________________ The difference between insanity and genius is measured by success |
