Hi all.
You know, everytime you turn on the TV, listen to the radio, as long as English is available in your place, you know keep coming out. I would like to ask the native speakers what exact message these two words can convey. So, what do you think about fillers? Please reply. |

Hi Charlotte,
I can't think of any real meaning for it, except as you say, as a filler. It's a way to take a moment to get your next thought together, to make sure your listener is understanding what you are saying, maybe to see if your listener agrees, etc.
I agree that it is annoying and overused, if that's any consolation. |
