I think you had a typo. If you meant, "the top three commonly-used languages," then that is fine. Another way is,"the three most commonly-used languages." Either way is good.

By the way, the way you expressed it in Flower's thread is good, too. It is less precise, though, so it is appropriate for casual English more than for formal English.
