Does *galvanize* have a similar meaning to *inspire*?

stimulate to act: to stimulate somebody or something into great activity

Close, but not exactly.
Galvanize comes from a chemical term to use electro-plating to coat something to make it stronger.
So, to galvanize a person to do some action is to make them stronger or make them feel stronger so they would be willing to do the action. So, yes they are inspired, but inspired by their own new strength.
