on your lap; otherwise one member of the couple faces the hazard of falling off

Chaise longue is french for long chair. In the USA and Canada you will often see it written as Chaise lounge.
It was originally a sofa with only one arm rest, but nowadays it is a long recliner, often made of plastic on which people sunbathe or take their ease outside
