Dear teachers:
(a)I'll be proud to have you read it.
(b)I'll be proud to make you read it.
Are there any differences between (a) and (b)?
Thanks. |

Hi River -
Yes a definite difference:
Quote: |
(a)I'll be proud to have you read it.
(b)I'll be proud to make you read it. |
A) suggests you are asking someone to read something (perhaps you have written) - and you feel honoured (British spelling)
Note: this is used more in the US than in the UK - in Britain we'd say I'll be very happy/proud if you would read this.
B) suggests you are forcing someone to read something (they don't want to read) |
